Jack Meanwell
Retrospective Exhibition Highlights
Eisele Gallery presents Jack Meanwell: 20th Anniversary Retrospective, on view September 5–30, 2025, celebrating the Canadian-born painter’s legacy and lasting influence on 20th-century abstraction in Cincinnati and beyond. Meanwell (1919–2005), a professor at the Art Academy of Cincinnati and member of the Cincinnati Art Club, was known for bold, impasto landscapes inspired by summers in McGregor Bay, Ontario, blending abstract expressionism with figurative painting. After serving in the Royal Canadian Air Force, he moved to Northern Kentucky in 1947, later devoting himself fully to painting and teaching for over 25 years. His work, exhibited widely across North America, is represented in major public and private collections, including the Cincinnati Art Museum.
