Ellina Chetverikova is a Ukrainian-born contemporary painter whose luminous landscapes explore the fleeting effects of light, atmosphere, memory, and place. After first coming to Cincinnati as a high school exchange student, she made the city her home for nearly a decade. She earned her BFA from the Art Academy of Cincinnati and later received her MFA from the Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, New York. In fall 2026, Chetverikova will continue her artistic training at the Lyme Academy of Fine Arts in Connecticut.

Chetverikova works across a range of subjects, from the streets and architecture of Cincinnati to landscapes encountered during her travels and artist residencies. Sunrise, sunset, and twilight are recurring elements in her work. Rather than simply documenting a particular location, she is interested in the way changing light can transform a familiar landscape and evoke a particular memory or emotional experience.

Gouache has become especially important to Chetverikova’s practice. First introduced to the medium as a child in Ukraine, she returned to it in 2016 and has since developed a distinctive approach characterized by expressive color, layered surfaces, and an immediacy particularly suited to working directly from observation. Her paintings balance careful looking with interpretation, capturing not only the appearance of a place but the sensation of experiencing it at a specific moment.

Chetverikova approaches each subject with a sensitivity to color, atmosphere, and the transient nature of light. Her work transforms observed moments into intimate and deeply personal records of place.
