Charles P. Gruppe (1860-1940) was a Canadian-born American artist. He largely focused on landscape and maritime scenes, his subdued color palette and attention to detail reflecting his travels to Holland and his self-identification with the Dutch school of painting. He is credited with popularizing Dutch art in America, and worked as a dealer of Dutch work as well as a painter producing his own. To this day his work is exhibited in several museums and galleries nationwide, and he is remembered for his influence in the worlds of Dutch and American art alike.
