Sally Schrohenloher graduated with honors from the University of Cincinnati in 1979. Post-graduation, she became an illustrator for the zoology and botany departments at Duke University; during this period she began painting still lives in her free time, which fostered a profound interest in the rich tradition of still lives. Sally studies and follows techniques outlined by several of the historical masters, using detailed and neutrally-toned base paintings coated in layers of transparent glaze to emphasize the balance of colors, volumes, and light.
